All recruitment postponed by SSCL

Post by Nickster » Wed Mar 25, 2020 6:40 am

Hi all.

Well I did my functional and role-playing tests on Monday but not the fitness or medical at Croydon. Was emailed yesterday to say that due to CV-19, all their assessment centres were being temporarily closed. I understand why, but feeling so disappointed about it.

I also feel its a HUGE mistake as one of the other candidates who currently works as a OSG, told me there was 66 staff in his prison off sick.

What do you all think?

I think it may be a case of there just aren’t enough staff in these centres to hold recruitment/training, with many off sick or in isolation.

There is a greater need for new staff in the sector, but the main thing that seems to be happening is prisoners are in the cells the majority of the day, and under controlled unlocks for food and phone calls.

Bearguy, tbh they seemed very well staffed on Monday in Croydon. If all recruitment is stopped its a HUGE mistake. CV-19 is going to be rife in prison v v soon imho. Look at Italy an Iran.

It’s just a measure put in place to reduce the risk of person to person contact, to slow down the spread.

I suppose there are ways and means things could have continued but maybe they don’t want to chance it

Desperate time, desperate measures unfortunately...... hopefully it won't be for long and we can all get training.

I think an idea would be to speed up the betting for those who have passed the ARC assessment. That would mean those who have not passed their fitness or yet completed there POELT could be drafted as OSG.

I thought this might happen :-(

My assessment date is the 5th of May, I’ve not had any emails yet saying it’s going to be delayed I’ve checked my online profile and nothing has been added there.

Is anyone else going on the 5th of May to Croydon and been notified of a delay? I’m hoping they are holding off as long as they can.

Any one know if this affects people who have passed vetting? Called the other day and sscl said I had passed and I’m waiting for a training start date, is this all training postponed or just ARC new recruitment?

I’m due to start at my establishment within the next 2 weeks and my training has been postponed, will be a domino affect all the way through from people already on training to people trying to book ARC assessment days

All training has been postponed and those that were mid way through have been sent back to prisons on restricted duties

Ours have come back today and seem to be like enhanced osg roles as they have passed C&R but seem to be working in the back seat roles a bit with little front line work

Nos :slre:
Applied 09/08/19
Online tests 11/08/19
Results 12/08/19
Arc Manchester 05/09/19
Officially passed arc 06/09/19
Initial offer 17/09/19
Vetting begun 18/09/19
The call 08/10/19
Start 11/11/19

Does anyone have any idea if if the vetting process has been delayed? Currently on the merit waiting/hoping for a conditional offer

Dont think so mate. Was on the merit list n had conditional offer this evening around 8pm
Kinda confused me at first as had an email saying I'd withdrawn my application, but then another soon after with conditional offer for another prison I had applied for
If not us, who? If not now, when?

Applied: 07/16
RAD: 07/16
Results: 08/16
Conditional Offer: 10/16
POELT Started: 01/17
Left Service: 03/19

Re-applied: 01/20
ARC(??): 20/02/20
Results: 24/02/20 - incorrect documentation?
Conditional offer - 27/03/20
