Another shift pattern question

Post by JCOX4 » Tue Mar 10, 2020 6:32 pm

Evening you lovely bunch..
With regards to shift pattern I fully expect to be working weekends/lates/earlys/lates followed be an early and none of this is an issue. But.... most of what I have seen and read suggests you work every other weekend and get the next off. My mrs works every other weekend also, if I was to request my rosta to have the same weekend off as the mrs would this likely be accepted as im still going to be covering every other weekend?

When I went in for a tour we were told it would be alternate weekends and they asked if we had a preference so they could allocate the shifts accordingly, so hopefully your prison will be the same mate. If in doubt I'd give the POELT mentor a shout, they've been dead helpful so far.

it will depend on the prisons operational requirements. although im sure someone would probably swap with you if needed and if they would allow it
If not us, who? If not now, when?

When we did our first couple of weeks induction in the prison we were issued our shift patterns, holiday etc and for the 4 of us it worked out fine.

I'm sure if you speak to your mentor when you first start and maybe go into your people hub department you could request which weekend you would want to work, we do every other and I'm sure most prisons do. If you have a good enough case and speak to them nicely I'm sure you will be accommodated easily. Might also be worth noting that if someone else you start with has the opposite weekend to you that you could request to swap with them, this isn't always possible though as you are generally assigned to a group that covers your wing and certain duties so would be swapping a lot around.

Big tip though is be nice to those in people hub, they will help you where they can but not a good idea to fall out with the department that sorts out your detail for you!

Another work shift question. Understandably Northern Ireland may be different but I’ll ask anyway.

I have applied for NCO night custody officer and just wondering what the general shifts are. I believe it is 44 hour week.

A friend has told me it is 4nights on 4nights off does this sound correct?

Also anyone in this particular shift permanently and can give me a run down on how you feel day to day on this shift?
