Potential Vetting Issue

Post by MHRA » Sun Feb 02, 2020 10:37 pm

I have a potential issue with vetting and I am unsure whether to call SSCL. Over the summer, I worked at a local pub and after I left in September, the landlords also left. After completing the vetting documents, which included the new landlords details, I have been informed that they will not give me a reference. Even after my manager told me he would. Could I fail vetting, even though there will be evidence on HMRC and the other three of the references under occupation history will give me a reference.

I don’t think you’ll fail vetting because of that. Did you explain the situation at the end of the form?

It shouldn't be a problem, if everything adds up on hmrc it shouldn't be a problem

I read that unless your work history doesn’t add up, in terms of running your national insurance number, they won’t ask for a reference.

I did not explain it at the end of the form but I have emailed SSCL now. Very frustrating as my DBS came back within 24 hours.

I'm about to start vetting but I have 4 previous cautions for possession of cannibis all over 17years ago. What's my chances of being accepted

Clem write them down, as I had a caution for criminal damage from 2011 and put it down and I was fine, like the guy said to me from my arc you need to declare everything as they will find out and could delay your vetting

Yea I have, Its just that it dosent look good putting 4 drug cautions on a vetting form to work in a prison. Im thinking I should probably just withdraw my application

Don't withdraw, you'll be kicking yourself asking "what if" etc give vetting a go and see what happens.

Hi Clem,
Best of luck with vetting!
The question on my mind is, how does someone get 4 cautions for the same offence?

Well actually I was charged the final time and got a £50 fine. Every time I was caught with it I was arrested.

Just hope I dont fail on vetting. Wouldn't mind if they drug tested all the time if they wanted

Id just be 100% open and honest about it with them. If you went to court and got a fine then tell them that, if you say it was a caution then it may look to them like you trying to hide it.

I am currently going through appeal at the moment due to a failure for previous convictions so I completely understand the apprehension.
Dont give up, declare it all and see what happens.
