Guys I had my first day today and I don’t think this is something to worry about too much, I saw talk, short, big and small officers all over both male and female.

Our mentor said size doesn’t matter and it’s all in the techniques used and working as a team!

Same here!

Our first day yesterday we were shown where food is available, family pub just down the road, shop opposite with a cafe and bakery and then hoot food available in the prison!

Safe to say my packed lunch was wasted yesterday!

When I first started at my prison, I weighed 83kg, not the smallest, but not the biggest. I'm now 90kg after a year in, I've never been assaulted. This is down to communication skills more than anything. How you treat prisoners will go a long way in ensuring your own safety.

I know officers who are 6'4, weigh 100kg+ and they still get shit from some CRAZY cons. The vasty majority of prisoners wouldn't dream of giving someone shit if they weight over 100kg, but at the end of the day it really doesn't matter how big you are, because there's always someone bigger and there's definitely someone who's crazy and just sees it as a challenge.

Now let's be real, man to man, if you see someone who's twice your size, you've got to ask yourself, "Am I going to be able to take you down on my own?".
