use of [quote]

Post by falkor » Fri Aug 29, 2014 8:33 pm

welcome to all our new members on the site
Just a friendly comment on the use of the quote tag
You don't have to use it in every post you do :slhe:
just use it when there is a real need
and quoting somebody else who quoted someone else ? is that really needed :slty: Let's keep it simple! :sltgn:

and PLEASE do not use
unless the post you're quoting is several up from yours unless there really is a justifiable need

I see some people still haven't taken a blind bit of notice of, or else haven't received the memo on this; hence bumping the topic!

Brought this thread back up so members are aware. 2 members have been given a months ban for continually using the quote directly above there own. :slst:

so for the purposes of sheer clarity let's go through the simple requirements here once more

if you decide to hit the quote button, please make sure you are not reproducing the entire post immediately above yours into your new post :slaN:

the entire post? how is that a help? we can all see the post immediately above yours, with no trouble! even specsavers is not needed on that one

so if you are hitting quote, just as some automatic reaction, because somehow you think it looks good :slno: you will be getting advice from freak or me

WHY? because we object to the padding out of our threads with totally unnecessary duplication, that does not add to the thread's message :slhmm:

so what does add to the thread's message? you can use quote in all other circumstances e.g. the post you're quoting is several up in the thread from your post, or you are only quoting a few words from the post, or just 1 line to which you are specifically replying to :slhehe: thank you for your cooperation (which is 99% of our members!)
