do you think you'll get the flu this year?

Post by falkor » Sat Jan 06, 2018 1:38 pm

has anybody you work with caught the flu yet? was it bad, average or humungus? is it anything to be really worked up about? or just the usual UK winter! what's the fuss? do you do anything special to reduce the risk against flu?

No one I work with (currently NHS) has had the flu this year, we have had a massive flu-jab drive this year though. They are pretty on it.

I have only had flu once in my adult life and once as a child, I hope I never catch it again! I was on death's door.

Having worked in my current line of work for a number of years, I have witnessed a fair few deaths which have been the result of a flu outbreak. I think people often mistake heavy colds for the flu, which I believe takes away people's idea of the severity of the flu.

I'm suffering from a very HEAVY cold right now, it's playing havoc with my chest, I'll get over it though. :slbg:

A doctor I once worked with said "if you had true flu and say, someone left £1000 outside of your bedroom door, there is no way you would be motivated or even able to collect that money". I think that's accurate.

Ive had the jab 6 years in a row, it kept me right but last year, a few days after my jab I was struck down with the bugger, knocked me for 6. If only I’d had it a week or two earlier.

I didn't have the jab one year and I came down with it.

I was off for three weeks, at that time I was only on a bank contract too. No NHS sick pay.

Never. Again.

In my current job.. you get offered the jab once a year! I’ve been there 6 and never had it. Only ever had a snuggle of a cold! I know of some who have had it and a few days later they’ve had a major smack in the face cold and someone had tonsillitis. I wasn’t sure maybe it’s the jab or just there body lol

Forget the H strains; Man Flu is the worst.

I don’t know if I’ve ever had it; as stated, often confused with a heavy cold. Never had the jab; probably should as a precaution. I didn’t realise so many had it... I try avoid needles unless my tattooist is doing the spiking!

My best friend is currently in hospital with pneumonia; he thought it was “just a cough and a bit of phlegm” - wrong! It’s so bad it’s putting pressuring his heart.

Stay warm, well and healthy people

I’m the same! The only needle that comes near me was a tattoo gun... haha

Pneumonia.. I knew someone who had this!! It’s horrible. I wish your friend a speedy recovery. All the best to you.

Many thanks K123 😊 he will also appreciate the good wishes; he only called an ambulance after I gave him a “telling off” (he knows not to mess with me!).

Stay healthy! ... same to you and keep enjoying the ink 😁

Didn't have the jab, mrs did! I got the flu, started xmas day! Now left with the lethargic feeling & laryngitis (no voice) to cap it off! Don't usually get this crap stuff but full of it 🤢 hot/cold bed. Self employed so sat in the corner of the pub at the moment with the Mrs working for me! Roll on midnight 😣

Won't need it next year! Wouldn't cover next year's strain 😕 2 weeks in! See if this bloody laryngitis ends before my vetting. Worrying this is I bet they'll both bloody linger on for weeks :(
