Great North Run

Post by The Highway Man » Fri Sep 08, 2017 8:21 am

I'm running the Great North Run on Sunday in aid of the RNLI, Just £350 to reach my target, spread the word and my link and I'll be eternally grateful.

The RNLI do sterling work but seem to forget some parts of the country.

Where I'm from the RNLI ceased funding and withdrew in 1926.
The lifeboat is funded by a separate charity with the only tie to the RNLI is that they do the same job.
HOWEVER
The RNLI still insist in collecting monies in the area, in tescos, aldi etc etc.
They don't like it when I say no. You shouldn't be rattling your tins and asking for donations in my face as I walk out of Aldi when...
A the RNLI do not operate in the area.
B the RNLI withdrew funding in 1926
C your actively taking money under false pretenses as your implying its for the local protection but its another charity that provides protection
And D rattling tins and asking is classed as begging and is a criminal offence.

I had the charity mugger removed from Aldi thru a complaint to the manager.

I'm quite lucky, there are 3 RNLI stations within 40 minutes drive of where I live and an independent inshore rescue boat. ;)

So far I've raised £1056, still got a sponsor form and a collection box to pick up, so the total will rise. My just giving page will remain open for another few weeks. ;)

good man ! nice charity collection, but how did you trip up? did you get help from other runners? or were you left to it?

A faster runner side stepped to get round me and caught my foot, I landed awkwardly twisting my knee badly. I was left to it to get back to my feet. The knee I twisted was the one with the worst arthritis of the two, so I saw stars with the pain! I managed to put it to the back of my mind and walked the rest. I was overtaking people who were running! I managed to finish 43000 out of 54000 so I was very happy with that. ;)
