Fitness Test Issues

Post by Pollypocket »

Hi all,

I done my fitness test 16/03/2021. Done the medical part first, Nurse signed me off to do the physical.
I came first in the bleep test, and finished the course in 29 secs. The instructor told me I had passed, so obviously I left feeling elated & just glad the bleep test didn’t kill me. :slwin:
On the 17/03 had a phone call with the Occupational Health team, passed that too. So I naturally thought I’d get “the call” fairly soon.
However in the 24/03 I received an email to say I had “failed” the fitness test, and that I would have been advised on what section I failed. Well being told I passed this was surprising & totally unexpected.
So to cut a long story short, I’ve called SSCL twice, and emailed prisoner recruitment, stating I wouldn’t be re-booking until they’ve got to the bottom of this current matter.
Feeling pretty crestfallen, & literally want to withdraw my application. I’m just a bit disappointed uurrrghhh (sorry rant over)

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I’ve seen a few people having different issues like this like some say they failed ARC but then email being sent later saying it was a mistake and that they had in fact passed.

I would definitely argue it do you remember who the instructor was the name of them? We’re did you go?
I had to go to Leeds for mine and I was the only one there the other who come failed the medical so I could only go it alone! I preferred it to be honest!

Hi thanks for your response
Filled me with a bit of hope. No I don’t know the name of the instructor, but she was a nightmare, non stop talking about the service, how great she was **eye-roll**. She even had her cat there with toys, food & litter tray (I mean I love cats so I’m not hating lol) but it was just unprofessional. I was supposed to be there 12.30-13.20, didn’t leave till 14.40. So had to call my partner to go collect our kid from school. It was all just a nightmare. Plus I paid £14 for the privilege. It’s not the money it’s the fact I passed & now this. Mine was local to me, in Croydon, South London, less than half hour to get there so I didn’t lose a day travelling or anything. Everything was tested in groups of 3 so there were not more than 9 of us there at any one time.
I got a bit frustrated yesterday as I got an email from them saying, they could re-book me for 6th April, so I was half tempted to just give in & do it again, get it over and done with. But my partner basically said, if they can’t even get this right at this stage, it makes you wonder about how shabby they’re processes are.
I’m just gonna leave it. And if they don’t do anything aside from sending me automated emails, I’ll take my invaluable probation experience elsewhere. Lmao

I think it’s worth arguing over it, as it just not what you expect. I would definitely put a complaint in and then see where is goes. Why do it again if your already passed! X

Sorry no lol I had 6 secs to spare...
The bleep test nearly killed me. I thought I was fit but clearly not....had I had to do another (say) 30-50 metres I would have failed for sure. I think I was going to fast early on....
I would advise practising, I believe the distance is 15m and you need to get to level 5:4.

Yeah the cone obstacle, felt like I was participating in Crufts lol

I would wear what I needed to complete the fitness test.. I remember going to my ARC suited and booted, felt a right nob head as I was the only one who made that kind of effort, everyone else looked like they were just going out for the day! Tracksuits, jeans and T-shirt’s
