Cost of commuting is what I’d consider the most, don’t want a huge chunk of wages being spent on getting to and from work.

Great that people are interested in the YOI. I suppose it’s where you know you are making a difference. The fact is though even the 21 year olds are still kids. I just don’t think their stay is long enough to have a lasting positive influence on their future though I realise there will be some exceptions. It seems a bit like a conveyer belt to me. I’d much rather work with long term prisoners where you are given the timeframe to aid rehabilitation. On a side note though reading of those who have left to return. It helps rookies like me realise that when the going gets tough stick it out or you will only miss it!

50-60 miles but it’s time for me so a 90 minute drive maximum. It’s nice up north, country roads, loads of parking, no congestion charge and no M25 at least the M62 keeps moving. Saying that if I did get a job 50 miles away I would be looking to move 30 mile closer haha

Consider this:- you’re on an A Shift, maybe twice a week. say 0730-1945. 12hr+ shift, then factor in your travel time.

Oh what your saying is correct and I’ve crunched the numbers. I’m a single bloke no dependents so I would initially travel that far before moving closer to the prison. I already work long hours, I’ve worked 50 over the last 4 days so well versed in long days with a commute either side of it. I believe if you want something, you have to put in the effort and if you don’t want to put in the effort you don’t want it

30 miles would be the max for me. Like you say fuel comes out of your own pocket, so that would need to be factored in.
Similar to you dartsrob, I work stupid hours in the job I'm in, minimum 50 a week and then probably another 5 hours a week checking emails, answering calls ect from home.

Yep unfortunately for me I would love an establishment closer to me to be recruiting but that could take a while and I want my foot in the door. Damn I’m even taking a pay cut to join but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do and money isn’t everything. Paying the fuel is annoying but I would sooner drive 50 miles to a job I enjoy than 5 miles to one I don’t. On a plus though it’s 90% motorway and national speed limit so not too bad!

I have two establishments both 30 miles away from where I am. Probably couldn’t go much further than that, but it depends on what types of roads you used and the travel time.

Still in the referred for a decision stage? Do you reckon it’s to do with getting a reference from my previous prison when I left in probably?
The status hasn’t changed since Thursday last week...
I also got an email invitation for an OSG role that I applied for at the same time as the prison one. Do you think the vetting is exactly the same for both?

Id imagine the vetting was the same for osg and officer? Could be wrong.. it will happen mate, and when it does you know "the call" is imminent :-)

Well almost two weeks in vetting and been on the referred for a decision since last week, I wouldn’t have thought all the checks would have been completed within a week? I can only assume they are trying to get a reference from my last prison, which I left after a few months ...
