I've only flicked through the book in a shop, at the end of the day it is just a work of fiction , written on the same lines as all those books written by so called dangerous criminals, bouncers and 'hard men' etc. the books are just poetic licence to print crap!!!
during my career i've locked up some of those so called authors what a load of 'bankers'

The book was just an experience of how he
saw things.. And of things happening to him..
The only one who may get offended is a bent screw..
I still recommend the book to newbies..

Having spent 10 years in the Prison Service and departed as a Senior Officer I can say that Ronnie's book is probably the most accurate reflexion of life in a current catr B. those who think that this bloke is a prat or bullshitter are either in comfortable cat Ds or have hived themselves a good little non con facing role. You may not like the blunt delivery nor his awful personality but he paints a very accurate picture. All those wanting to become Screws/ Prison Officers TAKE NOTE this is how it is.
AS for ' Loose Screws' , well I think the author has been well and truely manipulated by prisoners especially Bronson who is in no doubt a nasty dangerous bastard , the type who IPP sentances are speciffically designed for.

It is a good read and it tells how understaffed
the prison system is..
It also shows you have good guards and bad guards..
But that is everywhere in all walks of life..
England prisons are so different than American prisons..
The prisoners seem to run things over there ...
That is so wrong, and not the case over here..
Ok I will finish the book before I say anything else :slsh:
You're not wrong there. They are the residents (crims) and we are just the visitors

Apologies for digging up an old thread, but as there's a lot of people obviously interested in this topic, I thought I'd add to it.

This book has now been made into a film, with a view to being released in cinemas on 3rd June.

There's a trailer on their site: http://www.facebook.com/ScrewedMovie

I'm sure this will get some tongues wagging!

I read a few chapters and thought it was appalling. Yes it's accurate to some degree but I can't read a book where very other word is F**k and C**t. He came across as a bit of a of an egotistical prat to be honest, or as he would say a right f***ing C**t :slwin:

Oh and the trailer looks unwatchable, looks like the actors have been to the Danny Dyer school of 'acting'.

This movie should serve nicely to scare up a few more suicides. Right, I'm off to write 'Scum 2'. Need a stuntman for the greenhouse scene. Any 'takers'? :slbg:
Keep calm and carry on.

The book was a load of old crap and was not a true reflection of our role.

The best book written about our job and what it is really like to work in a prison is Bang 'em Up by Jeff Kelly Although the truth does not always make a good entertaining film. I doubt very much that Screwed will be entertaining. I do however think that a film based on Bang 'em Up will be great.

I watched the Trailer on YouTube, it looks complete crap to me, I didn't recognise much in the trailer from the book so you can bet this is gonna be some fantasy rubbish like Green street 2!

I don't remember much of what is in this trailer as being in the book! :slwott:

Also, I know quite a few people that worked with "Ronnie Thompson" and he did exaggerate a lot of things in the book. He even said it himself in an interview on BBC a few months back.

Oh, and Green Street 2 is probably one of the worst movies ever. I had to turn it off after 30 min, it was so dire........... :slvo:
