prison officer at HMP Nottingham was punched in the head and grabbed in a headlock, a court heard.

It happened when inmate Joseph Holt had repeatedly asked to see his supervising officer and was told it was not possible to see him at that point. Holt, 24, tried to push past the guard who put his hands on Holt's chest to stop him pushing past at about 8.30am on April 25 last year.

He then punched the officer to the head area and grabbed him in a headlock which restricted his breathing, Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard.

Other officers arrived on the scene and restrained Holt and got him off the officer, who had soreness and redness to his upper neck and his cheek.

Neil Hollett, prosecuting, told magistrates: "He (the officer) did say that he did not attend hospital and, fortunately, did not have to take time off work after the incident occurred".

Holt, who is staying at a hotel in Nottingham, pleaded guilty to assault by beating a prison officer.

His lawyer said Holt had tried to walk past the officer and was greeted by the physical push back.

"The defendant cannot recall any punch but wants to plead guilty straight away," he added.

"The other officers 'piled in', he says. He says 'he was roughed up' etc".
