New Starters Pay

Post by londonlad81 » Wed Oct 14, 2020 1:32 pm

Bit of a moan here.Just checked the Prison jobs website and I think there are 44 campaigns, so lots of establishments recruiting. I accepted my contract and my pay is about 3 k less than advertised.
So basically new starters who join just after me will be on 3 k a year more than me for doing the same job!
Bit annoyed to say the least !

Got to be an admin error mate. Either that or they’ll automatically bring your salary in line. Would get too worked up about it, they couldn’t start officers at your jail on more money than someone already in the job.

I did think that TheRealMe, would be bloody annoying someone starting weeks or months afterwards and being on more take home pay!
I’d like to think if it’s not an error they would adjust the pay!
Maybe I’ll email the recruitment team and query it!

Have posted pay scale, jobs are advertised at 39 hours including 17% shift enhancement. Poelts are paid 37 hours plus 17%.
Confusing but after training you can opt for 39 or 41 hours.

Don't think the recommendations for September increases have been announced if successful yet.

I'm also confused over the whole Overtime Pay thing ....
I've read up on it but doesn't make any sense to me . So if you go over your 39 hours say , are you paid every hour over as time and a half ? Or is it paid in a different way ? I've no problem working overtime ever as long as I'm paid for it.

It says in the contract the following;

"You may on occasion be asked to work more than your average weekly hours because of:
• An operational emergency
• The need to ensure minimum staffing levels are maintained
• Unavoidable or unforeseen operational reasons such as delay in returning from external duty

Hours worked in this way will be repaid as soon as possible through arrangements for “Time Off in Lieu” described in Bulletin 8."

If anyone has Bulletin 8, they should have more info on this.
