Covid restrictions

Post by TMH90 » Sun Jun 21, 2020 5:50 pm

So, I’m sure everyone is aware of the restrictions that are rumoured to be relaxed in the coming week or so which may bode well for new applicants/recruits. There’s talk of the 2m social distancing rule being reduced to 1m. Could this see assessment centres opening their doors perhaps 🤔.

Also who’s desperate for a hair cut? 🙋🏻‍♂️

😂 me too. I shaved mine off back in April but it’s past due again. The mrs won’t let me go at it again as the number 2 guard I was using fell off mid stroke resulting in me having to take the whole thing down to the bone 😂

I’ve been a skinhead since April, done to the bone, go over it once a week, if left any longer then the bald spots are well and truly visible !! Look like someone from Lindisdarne !

I must say youtube has come in very handy recently. Me and my Mrs between us managed to give me a skin fade, just as good as the barbers do after watching a few "how tos" on there.

I was told the assessment centers are opening probably in august when I called up about my interview. So not to far away and I bet some will open up before

A new update on hmpps website, replacing the previous one from 7th April.

Recruitment and the coronavirus
Coronavirus’ (COVID-19) impact on Prison Officer and Youth Justice Worker recruitment – updated Monday 20th July.

It is our prime focus to keep our staff and applicants as safe as possible through the HMPPS recruitment process. Following government guidelines, we are beginning to assess a small number of applicants, based on which prisons are a priority. We hope to increase this number in due course and will keep this page updated as often as we can. Please bear with us while we work hard to do this.

In the meantime, we would encourage anyone thinking about starting their career with us to register your interest for a Prison Officer role.

If you have already started your application, we will be in touch with you and keep you up to date. Our expectation is to reopen our centres as soon as it is safe to do so.

For more information on prison officer and youth justice worker recruitment, please read our newly updated Frequently Asked Questions below.

Is the prison service continuing to recruit?

We are not yet accepting new applications but would encourage anyone thinking about starting their career with us as a Prison Officer or a Youth Justice Worker to register your interest. We will then contact you as soon as application are open.

I am currently on a merit list will this be extended in light of the current situation?

For those candidates that are currently on a reserve/merit list which is due to expire prior to 30th September 2020, we have received dispensation to extend ARC accreditation to 31st December 2020. Should a role become available during this time we will contact you to discuss further.

When will I be able to attend my assessment?

Following government guidelines, we are beginning to assess a small number of applicants, based on which prisons are a priority. We hope to increase this number in due course. Please bear with us while we work hard to do this.

If you have not yet been contacted with an assessment date, we will be in touch soon.

I have accepted a formal offer but I am waiting for my vetting

We intend to continue with your pre-employment checks, so that we can welcome you on board at the earliest possible opportunity as our training recommences.

I am due to start my training, is that going ahead?

We are now starting to reopen our training colleges and get our training back underway. If you have not yet heard about your training restarting, please bear with us and someone will be in touch soon.

This looks promising in my eyes- im sure I've read some folks are picking up there training from where they left off when lockdown kicked in , and hopefully once they are all through , it will all begin to start up again- I thought I'd been forgotten about till I found this forum , I'm definitely not alone -- still waiting on a start date -- good luck to everyone who's waiting -

Just finished the eight weeks training as one of the covid guinea pigs, was a odd course trying to do it with social distancing but they managed to let us do C and R and fire hoods (just).

Basically been told they’re doing it in dabs of 12 students max, bit hopefully they can get more people in soon.
