Well said Gaboo, everyone wants to go home on a night safe and sound, only going to happen if there is a good team around you

I am doing the Apprenticeship as an early adopter and I found I was coming across too much negativity regarding the job and seeing comments that make you doubt yourself in making the right choice. For me, it was spoiling the excitement of starting the job and I stopped reading all forums and Facebook posts.

I’m 5 weeks in now, just finished my first week at Newbold Revel and so far it's been amazing (had 4 weeks in my establishment)

I just wish I’d started this years ago so for anyone going through the application process now, don’t let anything you read put you off or give you doubts.
I’m only 5 weeks in but I’m learning every day and asking loads of questions. The support at my jail is fantastic. Only three of us started together, one is POELT and two of us are on the Apprenticeship.
I believe they’re not offering any more POELTs now and it’s all apprenticeship from here, moving forwards.

I’m on the POELT from 6th April, just snuck in before the apprenticeship scheme is rolled out 100%.

It’s fantastic to hear your enthusiasm and this should be reassuring to potential new recruits. There never seems to be any positive aspects of the job portrayed in the media.

So basically the apprenticeship scheme is about training prisoners on the job, rather than sending them to the training college then onto the wings live?
I guess that would make sense, either way the job is still the same I suppose.

What did you do during the 4 weeks at your establishment? I'm curious as this is new

No burning issues here matey.. Although I am extremely confused at the moment with my situation as according to SSCL and my portal I am on a merit list but I called PR Friday (only because I have been talking to the same fella re my situation and he is a good guy) and they seem to think I am on the list to be put on a training course :slda:

So what are you going to do next ??

The PR team are spot on, couldn’t help me enough with a couple of issues I had.

I was always under the assumption, that vetting will only be done when there is a a place at your chosen establishment....looks positive to me mate

Yeh you are right, you are only vetted once you receive a conditional offer, however due to my vetting originally failing my offer was then given to someone else :slnuts:
The guy on PR Friday said to try them daily just after 4pm as they are due a shed load of new course dates down, but he could see on his system I was passed vetting and now waiting for “the call” with a start date.
So thats the next stage for me mate, ring daily after 4pm and see what fruit that bares for me.

Just to add mate, when I had the call last time out was completely out of the blue.

I phoned up shared services regularly n kept being told no updates, then couple hours after phoning them the one evening I got the call. So even if they say there's no news, could still come

It’s in the hands of PR now, usually, the call will come on an evening, mine was around 9pm.

Keep on at them though !

This site used to be extremely busy. When i first joined two years ago there were lots of posts and members but there was shall we say certain personality conflicts between a few people and lack of tolerance of others which added to an unwillingness by some to follow site rules which ended up driving people away. Hopefully this site will continue to grow again with mutually supportive members.

Evening everyone

I've been away from here for a bit with going officially live in the prison and having a huge amount going on during that time.

Its been a mental few weeks starting out and so much has happened, its nothing like I expected and Ive certainly been in the deep end and out of my depth on a few occasions, I'll have a catch up through the site over the next day or so and then be back to how I was and try to keep up as much as possible

Hope everyone is well
