Tornado team

Post by Beano » Fri Jan 12, 2018 9:06 pm

Hi guys, I just wanted to know how real a possibility of joining the tornado team actually is. I’m waiting for a course to get my advanced C&R done. Is it a realistic in aiming for this or is it get in by having a friend in kind of thing?

Thanks

We was speaking about this today - it’s usually expected to have at least 5 years service but they do take on people who demonstrate excellent skill in C&R

The above isnt excatly true. As kiloren said some jails have a waiting list other cant get anyone on the list.

Maybe you establishment would like you to have 5 years in or thats is the perception in you jail but.........

As with anything in the prison service you need to put yourself about, volenteer for planned removals as often as you can make sure you paperwork for your C&R is great! Get to know your C&R co-ordinator because ultimately they are the person who puts the lust forward for the inital course. Hope that bit of info helps.

I think Huntsman is actually talking about joining the Nationals, rather than just be a tornado trained officer.
You have to be the best of the best to get into the Nationals.
They’re a whole different league!

Yes there is a female on the NTRG also.

To join the national it would usually take longer than 5yrs. You need to have a lot of experience as a C&R commander and then a C&R instructor as well as also being tornado trained.

To be a natiinal as well though its more of who you know than what you know. The nationals are very close knit teams.

As for the question of females in the tornado teams its more down to the female officers themselves. I know lots of teams with lots of females members.

Complete your basic C&R gain some experience volunteer for planned removals etc prove yourself to the instructors, then you should easily get on the tornado team,

If however you want to join the NTGR you’d need reasonable experience of advanced C&R and experience of been a commander and instructor for a reasonable amount of time..... and also your face tends to need to fit,

I have only known one person offered a job on the nationals and believe me he was not a guy you’d ever want to mess with.... when I consider the amount of people I’ve met in HMP over the years this guy was head and shoulders above the rest in terms of C&R ability and just been generally hard.... was the nicest guy you could ever meet though!

To join NTRG you need to be the best of the best

How easy is it to get on a planned c& r if you volunteer for it? Do prison officers not really want to do it then?

The SO I spoke to at my establishment asks for volunteers depending on who is available, it is optional if you want to be involved or not.

Well if the route to tornado is by getting plenty of planned C&R’s under your belt and that’s the route you want to take, Be daft not to!
