I’m hoping as my establishment is more rural that there will be less chance of this happening to me... I live in hope anyway.

Gonna ask a silly question now, when on car insurance e you have to choose social pleasure etc business. Do you choose business option? With travelling to POELT?

One of the establishments I’m on the merit list for, the car park is on prison property so more secure at least, I’m pretty sure the ones at Manchester we’re a public car park.

You need business cover when working for the prison service, you’ll need it for poelt if using your own car, or if you ever do bed watches, or any duties at anywhere other than your single place of work and use your own car.

I think they do right. If they hit me and they’re not covered, I can’t say I’d be impressed

I watched an episode of traffic cops where they seized a vehicle as she was delivering a takeaway but didn’t have it insured for business use. Counts as uninsured to me! I was a couple of hours from the new policy starting when I got stopped and I thought it was fair that I got 6 points and a £200 fine AND had to pay to get car out of the pound! This is no different.

You can’t claim fuel allowance for poelt or bed watches without it
Also to be fair if you had an accident driving to poelt you wouldn’t be insured and your insurance would be well within there rights not pay out as normal insurance permits you to travel to one place of work which is your establishment and then home not to any other location
Also if you car share or even give someone a lift to or from work one day technically you would also need business insurance for that

You won’t be insured for using your car for anything other than travelling to and from your single place of work, and you can’t claim mileage allowance for using your car to poelt etc.

I know you won't be insured. skip past POELT you are now at your establishment what rule says we all have to have bussines insurance? Surely if its a requirement of HMP to work outside of the establishment from time to time then the transport should be provided? Im only playing devils advocate here.

That time of the month is it?

Yeah Celtic thats what I thought it would be down here. HMPs is literally being kept afloat by PP and prison officers own insurance by the looks of it. They would be screwed if everyone stopped doing it.

Comment amended as falkor has had another fit
