Just ironed my smarts, hopefully get given uniform tomorrow. Feeling alright for now probably won't be able to sleep tonight due to nerves and excitement!

Good luck everyone to!

Yep Sidabal, info overload- not enough went in though :sloo:

Pretty good first day, fingerprints took to get access to keys, photos for ID, belt and pouches, chains issued. Had a tour of the prison and were on the wings for an hour. Prisoners gathered around to get a good look, with a few "don't do it" comments but most seemed "friendly" enough. Tomorrow on a wing by myself shadowing.

Hope it went as well for everyone else as it did me. Oh yeah apparantly there's around 240 people enrolled for Newbold next week, which I am told is quite a fair few.

Got to establishment and they had never heard of me, went to the car in the car park to send via e mail the proof that I should be there. Got uniform and went straight on the wing all day, intresting, great prisoner officers who really went out of their way to help.

Sounds good guys, redruth not the best of starts but seems like they threw you straight in at the deep end. Which in some ways isn't a bad thing. Have to agree all the staff I met were friendly and helpful.

Well induction week over, how's everybody found it? Myself I found it has given me a great insight in the operations and running of a prison and can't wait to get stuck in, anybody bring anything special to newbold next week?

Do you mind me asking, why and what part was different?

Well my first week is over. On Monday I turn up at the establishment and am told they had no idea I was coming, After sending an email from the car park to prove I should be there I was let in. I was taken to a wing by a man who only said a few words, I'm thinking what have I joined. I arrive at a wing and stand there as a discussion breaks out between an officer and the man who brought me over,as to the fact that I'm not in uniform and have no training and as to wether or not I should be there, I feel about 3ft tall. The desk officer is told that I have to be there. I receive my uniform and am told to iron it and put it on during dinner time. The rest of the week is spent following some really helpful officers and standing around the office. I do this for a week and leave today for college. There is no training dept so I have to chase up my missing uniform. Nobody has contacting me at all about when I go to college, what the plan is ref training and shifts, welcome to the prison introduction, mentors or anything what so ever. So I go to newbold not knowing what to take etc.

Oh dear redruth it sounds like a terrible start! How did you find it putting the complete disorganization to one side? When you come to newbold bring white shirt black trousers and black shoes or boot, I've heard they have a store room full of uniform as some of the guys starting with me also have no uniform, I'm sure if you explain the situation to one of the trainer they will point you I the right direction. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Its cause It was on a vp wing vicavac, so it was generally quiet. Well behaved prisoners. Not much happened tbh but it gave me more time to talk to the staff properly and gain a better insight into a working day/ prison officer job through there eyes

I'm just 1 week ahead of you guys. Any of you starting at any North West Prisons?
