Will be interesting to see the medias viewpoint no doubt it will be bias and unrealistic but time will tell..
I believe in Per Sec (personal security)
It's a good belief and never disappointed.

BBC are always looking for the most sensationalist views.
They most likely wont blame the MOJ or the Justice secretary but they will blame the officers.
And say its all because of corrupt officers.

it has been noted that an officer who was exposed to spice ended up having convulsions on the wing.
I must ask many of you that walk the wing daily, you probably smell a lot of weed throughout the day.
but are you concerned with the effects of breathing in spice? have you seen colleagues fall ill as a result? or is this an isolated incident?

This has been done on numerous occasions and will be kept on doing. There is no quick fix to the prison service and this just proves how vulnerable the service is. Everyone who has dealings with the service knows how bad it is. Hopefully this will now lead to a enquiry and they will find the faults and fix them. But this being a government run organisation I don't hold my breath on it more like it'll be swept under the carpet till the next time a reporter decides to do a undercover report again.

You have to remember that the prison is run by sodexo who's staffing levels are worse than g4s.....
Also remember that the footage shown will of been highly edited, I fear to put the prison in the worst possible light.

I'm speculating that officers will be blamed and not those in ivory towers.

Prisons cannot be run for profit.

I think and I hope this is the beginning of the end for private prisons.

Wont get rid of private prisons as the company running the prison gets fined for certain things. Fights lock downs failed regime ect so the government get money back from the company for this therefore making the government money on them.

Well that's concerned me quite a bit about joining.

As a new officer if I was threatened by a con with a stick would I back off or accept the challenge? And I did accept what's the repercussions?

Also. Inhalation of spice.. how do guard against that.

My respect for all serving officers has just gone through the roof I salut you all.

Sodexo pco's do not have batons like hmps staff.
They dont have the powers of a constable like hmps staff.
The ex officer patrolling the perimeter for sodexo is a joke. No powers at all. ( I'm assuming he took the private company's employment and became a pco)
The staffing levels are dire at Northumberland.

Even on my induction week their was 9 staff for one wing- 3 landings.
2 staff on each landing at all times, 2 SO'S and one CM floating round when on association.
plus one in bubble to oversee 2 wings ( on right angles) and the same staffing on the other wing.

Prisons cannot be run for profit.

Just had a text from my CM, he commentated on the prisoner wielding a pipe or bar..
He said that that prisoner would of been surrounded in seconds by 3 officers after that threat to a pco, batons drawn if he didn't drop it, on a nicking and off to CSU in minutes.

He said thank god we don't work for sodexo or g4s..

I agree it's made me think about whether I'm doing the right thing. Although I'm going for a public sector prison and private is always worse they cut everything to the bone. But jeez, hats of to all serving officers after watching that I wonder how many people will withdraw applications or not even apply, especially for the low pay. I wonder what the justice secretary reaction is especially after her motivational speech to day!

I can assure you that private prisons are far worse off than hmps...
That's not to say that hmps are without problems... Far from it..

But not as bad as one staff member on a wing..

Like I said a normal day on my wing is 9 plus bubble

At the end of the day, Sodexo have to make a profit, that always was the final word and always will be the final word, sickening, really sickening, if you haven't seen the ½ hour, get it on I PLAYER and get some hankies ready to stem the tears http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... undercover

well I don't know why the BBC decided to put a reporter into HMP Northumberland, Sodexo's shining example of how a prison should be run
but it wasn't Sodexo's finest hour was it?
It showed what happens when Sodexo makes a profit from running a prison, they have cut Prison Officers according to what we heard - the entire Dog Section went? WHAT? you are kidding right? replaced by what? ( 1 man in a car riding round the perimeter every ½ hour)
