Kit List!

Post by Stobie93 » Sat Jan 21, 2017 7:20 pm

C'mon guys and girls,

Let's hear it, what would you say your daily kit list is? (That you supply yourself)

For example:

Slash proof search gloves (always handy)
Slash proof / normal under shirt
Pens
Boots
Shoe polish
Deodorant..

Ect ect..

(I would recommend anything that you have on your kit list that is personal or easily identifiable with you that you refrain from putting it on the list otherwise have fun and we may learn useful stuff we may not have considered previously from one another)

Thanks,

Stobie.

From your list I would take the deodorant and polish. Add some nice thick socks 😌

Roll-on deodorant only... aerosol sprays are banned. As are perfumes and aftershaves...

Boots, polish and a notebook for me, everything else is available from the Prison Service.

Pens
Small notebook.... Prisoner name or cell number so if I say ill get back to u with an answer, I do

Non alcoholic hand antibacterial gel... Some of the little angels dont wash!!!

A diary..... Need to know what shift rota your on!!!

Extra strong mints.. For me obviously
Tea bags.... You can always get a trusted trusted to make u a brew!!

Sense of humour
Sense of banter
Sense of leaving all hope at the 'air lock!! 😁

Oh and I just found out that stores have had a new delivery of bags of humour.

Surely the prison service give you pouches and belt? Or am I mistaken?

And I have surplus bags of "no's" from my previous employment.

They issue a leather belt with a pouch, chain and whistle ( some establishment dont supply the whistle)

Its ok for civi workers but I have a viper belt system anyways, its more practical.
Its easier to run in, it doesn't slip and its easier when you have a baton. Their is some weight in it.

Although you dont need it for poelt. What your issued is fine. Its only because I had it.

Oh one last thing, I went to b &q and bought 1.2 meters of thicker chain for keys, I snapped issued chain on 2nd day, got caught between seat and leg of a chair whilst sitting avin a brew!!

I own a viper one also, with a couple pouches for like phone, gloves and a first aid kit from my last job so no biggy, good advice though.

And good shout about the chain, you would think they're more durable lol.

They are not as strong as you may like for safety if you had a stronger one and key got stuck on door or an inmate pulled it u will be attached to it.

The issued ones snap.

Think before u get a stronger one as if you get injured as you don't use issued equipment it will effect any pay due.

Tbh ur best using issued kit for everything

But I agree with viper belt

well most of the officers ive seen have choke chains or thick chains for walking the dog.
i only got a chain slightly thicker than issued one, spoke to the security guv before to see if it was ok, he said yes
but knowing the service, i should et that in triplicate writing signed in the blood of the guv's first born!!!!

Issued kits fine!

Don't use your own key chain! Your key chains meant to snap if in a door and it gets pulled! If it doesn't snap next thing you know your in a cell with a con!

And in all seriousness if you've spoke to your security governor and he says it's okay... remember if it's his neck on the line or yours if something goes wrong...

If there's nothing in writing from the prison service saying it's okay to use your own kit then stick with issued,

Carry a couple of black pens, a notepad, a diary (you should have a POA one if your a member) I used to always keep a spare shirt at work, hand gel is a good idea, carry some gloves, I'd take your own cup and keep it hidden in the office! Contribute to a tea boat, I'd personally never want a prisoner to make me a drink but a lot of wings have tea boys just a personal thing for me,

Remember the job isn't about what you carry there's no need to look like robocop on your shift!

More important than anything you can carry is your personality! It will shape you as an officer, anyone who's timid will struggle in the prison service, I find a sense of humour is the most important thing to do this job both mixing with prisoners and staff
