HMPPS Reserves - Temporary Reappointment as a Prison Officer
HMPPS Reserves - Temporary Reappointment as a Prison Officer. Has anyone actually been taken on? I applied the day I got the letter and its one delay after another and I know someone else who is having exactly the same problem!!!!!
It seems to be taking that long that they will not need us after all.

Good question Struthy!! A friend and I also applied to return on a temporary basis to help old colleagues out. We both figured that it must be pretty tough for officers at the moment and felt that we could do our bit. So far we are 6 weeks into the process and I also wonder how many officers have managed to make a return? When I originally joined in 2016, the vetting process was quicker than this.......who knows what’s going on

Both me and my friend were informed that we failed vetting, which is quite bizarre really as I still have my CTC clearance...... but that’s the prison service.
Re: HMPPS Reserves - Temporary Reappointment as a Prison Officer
That happened to another member on here and me. Both of us appealed and we are now back waiting for a decision. We both asked for reasons why we failed and they just don’t bother getting back to us. Bit weird that the same thing has happened to 4 of us.

Sounds like an absolute shambolic process

Yep - it is actually a fair reflection of today’s prison service. To be honest, I was just happy to do my bit and help some old colleagues out during difficult times but this is a stark reminder to me of what HMPS is like..... would be interested if anyone has actually been taken on

I applied on the day I go the letter, I got a call 2 weeks ago saying that I'm starting in the middle of August.

Do you have to do workbooks and the poelt exams again too gaboo? Didn’t think you could do the same qualification twice.
Re: HMPPS Reserves - Temporary Reappointment as a Prison Officer
There are no exams now, that's what i have been told, it's more practical assesment, trainers watch/score you through out the course. I am doing workbooks though but my course is a mixture between the poelt(workbooks) and the apprentiship(more practical work ie. roleplays)
Re: HMPPS Reserves - Temporary Reappointment as a Prison Officer
Ah right. Sounds better. The workbooks suck. Time much better spent getting hands on imo
Re: HMPPS Reserves - Temporary Reappointment as a Prison Officer
Like with any job, training can only go so far, the real stuff comes on the job and being thrust into certain scenarios.....dirty protest anyone
Re: HMPPS Reserves - Temporary Reappointment as a Prison Officer
Hello. Has anybody been successfully reapointed via this scheme?
Re: HMPPS Reserves - Temporary Reappointment as a Prison Officer
I’d like to know the answer to this as well. My local prison was desperate for staff and they didn’t get anyone. I know other Officers at other prisons and not one of those got reserve Officers. I just got fobbed off and ignored when I asked SSCL.
