Hi All,

I really need some advice please after 3 attempts with my medical/fitness 1st one BP to high due to white coat syndrome 2nd attempt tripped up face planting the floor 2m from the strike zone arghhhh :( and 3rd attempt got to level 4 just couldn't carry on and gave up, needless to say I've failed I was totally gutted felt so angry with myself for giving up. I've thought long and hard about the role on Prison Officer after this and if I was 10 years younger I would have given it another go but I'm going to be 50 next year my family were against me doing this from the start which didn't help one of the lads at the fitness on my last attempt was the same age as my daughter so to me that said it all :slsh2: . I've applied for OSG at the same prison and so far got to the interview stage just waiting for my portal to change to book a date and venue has anyone on here worked as an OSG please would love some feedback what it is like compared to prison officer and also I passed my vetting for prison officer would they need to redo this? At least as OSG I wouldn't need to do the medical and fitness again even the words bleep test send shivers down my spine lol xx

I don’t have an answer to your query about the OSG role but I just wanted to say that whatever you decide to do, don’t write yourself off because of your age or what other people think. I’m 45 and in the early stages of applying. I have my VARC in 10 days time. I was concerned about my age but the more I’ve thought about it the more I feel my life experience and calm and nurturing manner, which I feel is a lot to do with my age, are going to be a huge benefit to the role.

Can you re do your fitness and medical if you wanted to, or are there a set amount of try’s? It’s the fitness I’m most worried for myself so working out a plan of how best to get myself ready for it. Good luck with whatever you decide x
Applied: 08/06/2021

Thanks Trisha I really appreciate your advice and kind words you get 3 chances at the medical and fitness so I can’t redo it again for this application I’m going to continue with my OSG application and fingers crossed 🤞 I will be successful. I wish you all the best with your application I’m sure you will be fine let me know how you get on good luck xx

You are welcome. Good luck with your OSG application. Maybe you can go down that route then reapply when allowed for a prison officer role if you want to. Fingers crossed for you that all goes smoothly with your application 🤞🏼

Thank you, I am a bit nervous and especially about the fitness, but need to get through the VARC first x

Any top tips to go from unfit to being able to pass the physical in a very short time? Got email today saying I’m getting a provisional offer so guess my fitness won’t be far off. I’m pretty unfit if I’m honest but have lost weight over the past months so ready for some intense action to get myself ready
