HMYOI Feltham

Post by FlyingGirl2020 »

Hi Everyone.

I was wondering if anyone can give me a brief insight into Feltham...

E.g. How long were you on the waitlist for before being offered a conditional place?
How do you find working there?
Anything else worth knowing!

The reason I ask is because at both my ARC and fitness when I was asked where I'd applied for, I would always get a negative response when I said Feltham. Of course, I am very much aware that everyone has different experiences and views!

I can't seem to find much on this site about Feltham life so I thought it would be worth an ask!

Thanks very much :)

Hey

I was in the same position as you. Really, really wanted to work there as a youth justice worker as I thought the role looked great but I started doing digging and in the 2019/2020 reports Feltham is marked as 1 / of serious concern. It could be different now. YOI also are notoriously violent so that could be another reason you’re getting those type of responses.

Sorry I can’t help first hand just thought it was worth letting you know that.

Hey.

Thank you for your response. That's very interesting to know. Where did you find these reports?

Feltham are now recruiting for a YJW for the 15-18 year old estate.. Better money than a prison officer at 33.5k a year once you sign up to a 41hr contract.
Very tempted to apply and begin the process again but it’s an hour travel each way, which in turn means more fuel.. hmmm...

Oh yes. I have read up a lot on yois and am under no impression they are a challenge.
I love the idea of working in a prison and helping people through a crappy time in there life (albeit self inflicted) but the idea of helping youngsters while they can still make a change to there lives appeals to me even more and I would absolutely love it.. Bloody distance.. don’t know if I would be still better off waiting a few years when my kids are all older and I can give the job 100% of my attention and not worrying about school runs, etc etc

I've applied for it but it's merit based, I messed up the documents during my online assessment so I had to upload again. They sent me an email that said I had "successfully completed but we need an upload of a document to continue to the next phase" , I don't know if that means I just completed or if that's a pass. Any thoughts?
