Apprenticeship Delayed until 2021

The Custody and detention Apprenticeship for new starters has now been stopped until 2021, New starters will now do the POELT course instead which is Level 3 Custodial care diploma.

Where did you hear this? Any reason why? When I heard poelt had changed to the apprenticeship scheme I looked into it and it seemed like a positive change. Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed poelt but once you graduated you were straight in the deep end with only a couple of weeks shadowing on the landing.

From looking at it, it seems the apprenticeship scheme was a good way of training people. I guess the covid-19 saga has pushed the scheme back.

TMH, I had an email, and amendment to my contract, as Im currently awaiting training and was due to do the Apprenticeship.

I received the same email today. Shame about the apprenticeship, but understandable considering how many people are waiting training now. They have to speed things up a bit

If I start in mid June does this mean I will be on the POELT too and not the new apprenticeship? I haven’t heard a word about training other than I’ll be doing operational support until I can be given a date.

It would be my guess. Apprenticeships will start from next year

When was Armley recruiting I missed that! Would have been ideal for me I’ve applied for full Sutton

It was last year. The whole process has taken a while for me. I was on the waiting list for around 7 months waiting for the prison I wanted then all of a sudden the conditional offer, vetting and the call happened within a month or so.

I’ve heard the waiting can be over 6 months up north. I’m on the merit list for Full Sutton hope it goes well for you at Leeds!

Full Sutton will be a good place, Cat A so their staffing levels are better- from what I’ve hear. Cat A prisoners are also escorted to court by Prison Service staff and not contractors.

Good luck with full sutton, I was supposed to be there now, would have been had it not been for a combination of COVID-19, their incompetence and unprofessionalism
