The dreaded news... Reserve list :(

Post by Amy1996 » Thu Dec 21, 2017 8:24 pm

I applied for guys marsh and passed my RAD however I got the dreaded email saying I'm on a reserve list that will last 12 months.
Have many people been put on the reserve list and never got a job offer within that amount of time? Or is that unlikely would you say?
Really want the job :(

I got put on the merit list and was eventually offered a position. May be worth looking if there’s any other local prisons and SSCL will mirror your rad results across

Problem is guys marsh is the closest at 24 miles the next one is 40 miles which is quite a trip to do on a very regular basis. Did you apply to other prisons ? If not how long did you wait for your place ?

Most people are put on a reserve list first so don't be disappointed. I held out for one prison so I waited a fair few months for a offer but it came eventually (see my signature at the bottom). It will happen you just have to ride it out. Don't be tempted to apply for the other prison if you know it's not right for you. I got impatient and started applying for others then realised I was just being impatient so withdrew them all. You never know you could have a conditional offer within a week, it happens.

I was put on a reserve list for a month but then mirrored my rad results to another prison that was roughly just as far and within a week or two i had an offer! Vetting took about 4 months from sept till I litterally had 'the call' yesterday.. but i dont start training at newbold till march lol longgggg time.

Thanks guys, I will keep my fingers crossed. I don't mind waiting as such as I will take a relevant job in the mean time such as mental health support work. But I'm really worried nothing will come up within the 12 months. Would be such a shame as I have wanted to work within the criminal justice system since I was a child so the fact I passed the RAD I was super happy. At least know it's not just me in limbo 😁

Apparently they don't do merit lists for prisons unless they are pretty sure there is a position going to be available within the 12 months. I've searched and searched on here and not heard of anyone who wasn't been offered a position within 12 months.

Oh really, yes to be fair I havnt really seen anyone who hasn't been offered a place within a year, but I suppose the whole process depending on the wait could take longer than a year. Than in itself doesn't bother me at all. Just want to know it is likely I will get offered something at some point, without having to go through the whole process again

I’m from the north east, which has one of the lowest staff turnover rates in the country. I received a conditional offer after 7 months. Just sit back and ride it out, it will come when you least expect it. I was on the 🚽 when I received mine :slsh: too much information, perhaps.

Why do you think it has a low turnover in the NE?

I’m in Yorkshire and wasn’t on for too long. I haven’t seen anyone not get offered within 12 months. Have seen some have to re take fitness when in POELT or just before POELT however

Ok hopefully I shall have a similar experience then 😃 thankyou for your responses, nice to have a reply personally to get a judgement aswell. So annoying that I'm in a location that's only really close to one prison, otherwise I would apply to more

Does anyone else find the recruitment process very frustrating, to advertise positions, then put you through RAD then to be put on the reserve list with no real indication of when you will be put forward to vetting.😣
