Latest Info For POELTS - August 2015
Re: Latest Info For POELTS - August 2015
We've just been told that there is no difference between ecigs and normal cigarettes with regards to staff (in other words, only outside of the establishment).
Staff are not happy.

Someone said on another post that when you do nights you are locked inside, does this mean you can't smoke at all if you're on nights? I'm giving up anyway but thought I would ask just in case! lolanewstart wrote:We've just been told that there is no difference between ecigs and normal cigarettes with regards to staff (in other words, only outside of the establishment).

That would be correct (although at night with so few people around im sure most staff would 'find' a safe place to have a smoke).

You can stay BUT they do pay your travel expenses (and you can get Time Off In Lieu for the travelling time) and its very boring at Newbold at the weekend (I did it one weekend) as very few people normally stay.

Most, in fact all weekends you can leave your kit in your room. If something is happening over the weekend you'll be given plenty of notice. advice as always, ask, ask and ask again.... The training staff, do look after you, even the grumpy ones

haha that is useful to know.
Also do the prison have lockers you can put your bag in?
just some days i may have to stay over the night before in a hotel, due to the fact it makes life so much easier. so i will have all my overnight stuff.
and the sad news is atm i do not drive, so i cant just chuck it in the boot of my car.

Can anybody shed light onto what the food is like. Do they cater for vegans, if not can you make you're own food in the evenings?
Re: Latest Info For POELTS - August 2015
Food is warm.
(that's about the best i can say. Think mass produced).
Vegan wise I'd be surprised if it was more than salad. You have access to microwaves. Good luck.

Hi guys
I've just completed my RAD Assessment think I did a good job but won't know until I get my results 10/14 days.
I asked loads of question on de brief but tbh none where answered. Main question was where are the prison collages. I'm based in East Kent and have applied for Dover position was told rugby that is miles away from me and is residential and I'm just trying to think logistical is this gonna work as I have 3 kids and a wife who works full time any info and help would be grateful
Cheers

Hi,
To be honest, wait until you get your results and are allocated a training date & training establishment before you start worrying about it.
I'd also recommend you keep on applying for any other jobs as:
- the process can take a long time
- you may not have passed
- you may not like the job once you start
- you may have applied for an establishment that doesn't need staff right now but is creating a waiting (merit) list
I'm not being negative, merely making some suggestions based on observations over the last year or so.
Good luck.

As anewstart quite rightly said, I would wait to see if you pass the RAD first. There is a POELT center in Stanford hill prison but if you live over a certain distance you will have to stay in a hotel there mon-fri. Unfortunately that's how it works.
