two questions from newbie

Post by dibble » Fri May 16, 2008 1:31 am

hi, i start my 8 week training course on 19th may and have a couple of questions i would like to ask

i've read previous posts on here about footwear so this week i bought myself some recomended magnum boots online but without realising i've got steel toe. is this allowed or do you advise i send them back to exchange for non steel toe?

do i get supplied with uniform on my first week OR after i complete 8 week course? if it is after 8 week course what do i wear for the two weeks i have at my prison during the training period?

I dont believe your are allowed steel toe anymore?
As for uniform, its seems to be pot luck. From what i have read on here there is a national shortage but you may be lucky if the prison your allocated to has some uniform in stores and i think that you are expected to turn up in as close as possible clothes to the uniform.

Good luck with your training! :s:
I accept full responsibilities for my actions but not if they are somebody else's fault

Allowed or not i would suggest you send them back and get non steel toe capped as a new starter you dont want to have arguments with your establishment on wether they are allowed or not !

I have been in the service nearly 9 years and you dont need steel toe caps and they would definatly not be as comfortable for all day wear .

Good luck with your training .

The uniform PSO does not mention anything about wearing steel toe cap shoes/boots. Ive worn them for years, however i recently bought some composite toe cap boots which give the same protection but are much lighter than steel ones. officers/OSG's who work in the gatelodge of my prison have to wear safety footware on health and safety grounds- so do the storeman & the chefs.

But it does say you should consider "toe protection".

toe protectors are different from steel toe cap. Id advise to send them back and invest in some lowa combat boots, i worn my last pair of magnums out in 6 weeks

Toe protectors are different from toe protection - steel toecaps fall into the category of toe protection.
