New Uniform Issue

Post by Eastmidlander » Fri May 02, 2008 8:15 pm

Hi I have seen on the HMPS intranet that we are due to have a new uniform around Oct this year. Does anybody know what the changes will be? Thanks

Well they set up a committee of slackers that got a few days off a week to design it all eating sandwiches etc and they've decided we're gonna get trousers with sewn in creases and stuff like that so they/the scruffs don't have to iron them anymore. The shirts are gonna be like Tesco security guards ones with pen holders in the pockets and a stupid black crown above the left breast pocket. Most of all, hold the front page, oh my God they think this will be fantastic - we're getting a jacket and fleece that combine into a warm coat so all can wear it on their way home. Most of all EVERYTHING will have your number on it, probably even the soles of your shoes as well, just so you can be easily identified and to help prisoners make complaints and false allegations against you.

It's all about dumbing down our appearence. They are even changing the epaulettes again (probably cos they are now thought offensive to prisoners like the caps were and then the ties) - this will now be the 7th type of epaulette I've had.

And it will still be the same polyester tissue paper quality sh*t we've had to put up with for the past 10 years or so.

I've been told by my uniform clerk that they are going to stop issuing jumpers to staff. The fleece can be worn inside if you are cold ( the fleeces will have a fancy badge with your epaulette number on it.)A bit too casual when worn with a white shirt and tie!!!

I have heard on the grapevine that the new issue will be cargo trousers and polo shirts, but not heard definitely on that. Anything has got to be better than the current trousers!! :--)

My advice is to keep all that you have at the moment, the new staff will look sh*t and wont fit.

I would think that sort of uniform would be for the YOI estate. According to the new issue of PSN ,formal type black trousers, white shirts and ties are the order of the day!

Saw some pics this morning.

Shirts have radio tabs on either side, a pen holder sewn into the pocket, no crest on them.

Trousers have sewn in creases and look cheap and nasty - no change there then.

Apparently fleeces have a name badge on them that can be zipped up to not show it.

Doesn't really matter much as we'll still be wearing the same stuff we've got now until next year as they'll never deliver it on time :D

Let me ask you all this: Forget the fleeces and baseball caps or the new trousers and other junk streetwise chav parts of our uniform etc, how many of you would or think we SHOULD still wear caps when on duty, including on the landing??

I'm sure those that still wear ties would. Now all the old school will come back and give me 200 reasons why not to wear a cap, the do-gooders will tell me that it's punative (they were the ones to make a tie optional) and the scruffs amongst you will just give me abuse and say it's "just an overall".

But as a public service what do you think?
