Length of time on Merit list

Post by RedT  »

So today I got the email to say I have passed my VARC and am now on the merit list. From what I have read, no position for my chosen prison will be allocated until everyone that has applied prior to the closing date (22/07) has completed their VARC and that this can be up to 8 weeks after the closing date. I know it will depend on the number of vacancies and where I am on the merit list as to if I get offered a role.

I just wondered, out of interest really, how long after passing their VARC (arc or rad) that people waited before receiving a provisional offer?? I know it will vary for everyone but I’m so excited now I just want to see what everyone else’s experiences were 😊
Applied: 08/06/2021
Online tests: 09/06
VARC: 08/07
Passed VARC: 13/07
Conditional Offer: 22/07

You get put on the merit list for 12months then you'll have to reapply. I was on it for 11months before getting a offer.

The best thing to do is if u have more than one prison that is commutable, apply to all of the ones that are recruiting and have your VARC scores morrored to each establishment.

Hhtiek123, thank you for the suggestion. How do I go about having my VARC scores mirrored over??? Do I need to actually go through the application process for the other prisons? Thank you

Hi Scorpio, thank you for that, good to know. I have to give a very long notice period in my current job, so waiting for a provisional offer i know will be stressful 😂
Here’s hoping I get an offer and don’t have to wait too long

Hahaha yep good advice. I’m mirroring my score over to another fairly local prison now so hopefully that will improve my chances

DazMaz yeah that would be awesome! Closing date for the role isn’t till 22/07 so hopefully some time after that. I’ve applied now for another prison too so hopefully I have a bigger chance

I got my offer via email 2 days after VARC which I was very surprised about… so hopefully your not waiting to long but one thing I’ve noticed is everyone’s journey is very different and patience is key, even though I had a quick turnaround on my offer my vetting was 16 weeks long :slm: XX

Thanks Virgoxxx. Yes everyone’s journey is very very different and patients will be much needed. It’s interesting to see different peoples journey. Fingers crossed it’s sooner rather than later for me but I have the fitness to start preparing for as I'm not the fittest person ever 😂

Oh yes whilst ya waiting defiantly start practising for the bleep part of the fitness as that’s the most difficult element of the whole test the other parts are easy tbh, I downloaded couch fo 5k and strava app and just done jogging in the evenings… If ya manage a few weeks of this I’m positive you’ll be fine :sllv:
