Uniform

Post by Bearguy » Tue Oct 29, 2019 11:24 am

Good morning people,

I begin my training in January, with the first week at my chosen establishment.

My question today is, having sent off my uniform particulars, as I was told, like everyone else, to turn up in a white shirt, black trousers and black shoes. As you will be issued boots, is it worth buying a decent pair of boots myself or settle for the ones issued by the prison ? What footwear would anyone recommend I turn up in on day one ?

Thanks in advance

Morning Bearguy

Having been issued boots in previous jobs and bought my own at times too I’d personally say give your issued ones a shot first before going out and spending money on any others, a decent pair can set you back in excess of £100 so probably worth decent socks and breaking in the ones you’re issued before you decide to buy any

Thanks for the reply !!!

I bumped into my old neighbour who is an officer and he told me that as my establishment is a high security prison, any non issued boots may set off detectors and cause all sorts of issues !

Cannot wait to get started :slyay:

You won’t need one for the first induction and training and the prison I’m at issue you one once training is completed at the same time they issue baton, fish knife etc

There are four of us doing 2 weeks induction at the moment and we’ve been issued a key pouch, chain and radio clip (not that we ever have a radio right now) and we get by just fine with that for now as we’re mainly observing or doing anything with an officer for now

I’d wait and see what you get at your prison before buying anything else
