Residential or commute

Post by Rose589 » Mon Oct 28, 2019 1:57 pm

Hi, new here, I have my ARC on wednesday. Bit nervous, and I'm wondering has anyone done their poelt training and NOT stayed in a residential training place, but commuted instead due to family circumstances? I've read that it's possible to arrange a place closer to home if its feasible... fingers crossed.
TIA x

Question......when on residential training, do you need to take anything with you for your room ??

Bedding, iron and ironing board, kettle etc ????

Rose589 I think a lot it comes down to how far the commute will be, obviously costs mount up for travel and it’s decided based on cost of accommodation vs transport and realistic ability to travel the distance each day

Bearguy, With regards to facilities, I stayed at Newbold early in my training and they had an ironing room, kitchen etc in each accommodation block for all to use...personally I’d take my own cup, cutlery etc as it didn’t seem overly clean but the basics where there and a little Tesco not far down the road for supplies!
Bedding and towels were there but you may want an extra blanket if you feel the cold or extra towels if you like your own. There’s housekeepers that change stuff regularly but you may want a few home comforts

If I were you I’d drive going to Newbold...it’s a little in the middle of nowhere so not sure what your connections will be like getting there and back

Obviously going forward you may be able to grab a lift from classmates etc but I didn’t see a great deal of public transport around

Are you doing 2 week induction at your prison first?
