I'm sorry to tell you that your life will not change much, as in the prison service you will work like an Ass!

I'm interested to if there is much socialising out of work?

One thing I hope for is activity, I love walking and plenty of ascent! So am hoping for charity or competitive events abasing other establishments. In 2011 I took part in the Cateran Yomp, 54 miles walk over the hills and glens of Perthshire, we had to complete in 24 hrs or less, we completed in 22 hours, if you take any stoppage times for eating, changing socks, etc then it was 19.5 hours, I'm lot more experienced now and reckon we could have completed much quicker.

There are normally six sections per intake at Newbold. Each section is roughly 20 people. When I was at Newbold there was a new intake every 5 weeks but I heard a rumour that was increasing.

Be very careful of Whatsapp groups. While I was at Newbold a group was sent back to establishments for not reporting an inappropriate picture / comment. If you are in a group of 20 and one person posts something against the protected characteristics and you don't report it, you are just as guilty as the person posting it.

No need to really take anything. I took some pens a couple of highlighter and I found flash cards very helpful for revising.

Don't be pissed if you aren't staying. You'll miss out a little to start with but the bar is where all the trouble is.

Thanks for the advice TheCat. It's good to know that.
Hopefully we won't have immature people trying to scew everyone. If there is, we can always sort it out :slbg:

Since you were at Newbold, I want to ask something.

I'm going to stay accommodated there, so I was wondering if you need to stay on your uniform all day long or can you change it to your regular clothing after classes are done. In other words after 5pm

I'm going to be very careful in the bar - if I even go!

Twisties you could always try the Cateran Race - 52 miles of running in May every year. Or you could be a wimp and just do half of that :slbg:

I was once in a group of 16 runners for 11 nights, 3 years in a row. We ran 10 marathons in 10 consecutive days round the Lake Windermere in the Lake District. Hilly and tough as fook but loved every minute of it, including the deep tissue massages and ice baths every day :slred: We got to know everyone very well, sleeping in dormitories at night in bunk beds. Great experience and also raising £5,000 every year for charity.

I'd be happy to train for a mix of jogging (7mph) and walking (walking 3.5 - 4mph)

Running 1 marathon is a great achievement, but running 10 marathons in 10 consecutive days is bloody awesome ... did you raise for the same charity each year?

My charity was ABF the Soldiers Charity, actually it was their event, I trained alone whilst living in Scotland, in the final days running up to the event I was told I could not complete alone for safety reasons, so lucky 3 guys from Caterick Garrison allowed me to join their team.

May be we will be able to get involved with such events when at our establishments :)

Hey! Im at newbold now going into week 3. You just mainky need uniform and id! You get notebooks and a pen. I also took highlighters. Leave your phone in room or car as wont be allowed it only on breaks. In my class there are 17. Id take an extra blanket incase your rooms cold! Mines cold til about wed-thur. Take gym gear as we did abit of c&r in first week. Id also take snacks for your room like potnoodles and crisps and meals arnt so good or filling. No hands in pockets and make sure you dont have your hands in your pockets and your boots are shiny.
With the whatsapp group you will get told about this on your first day. Id get to know each other first as if you make one and someone takes offence you could all be in trouble so id wait :)
