What is the actual take home pay each month?
Hi, I’m new here!
I’ve just recently applied to become a prison officer in West Yorkshire. I’m just wondering really how much is your actual take home pay at the end of each month? Are there any enhancements or bonuses? How quickly does your wage rise? How much do you get paid whilst on POELT and most importantly, is it really worth it? I know every prison is bound to be different, but does anyone have any experiences working in West Yorkshire at all?

Hard questions to answer as pay varies depending what prison you are in. I take home just over 1700 a month but I'm in one of the highest paid prisons. There isn't a chance in hell I would do the job for 22k like some people do.

At the end of this month you can get a better idea as there is going to be an increase in salary this month, so we are informed.

I think it would be pretty ideal if someone who is on polet could drop a message on here and let us know what the flat salary is whilst training?
Would help me in regards to how much I would have left after mortgage ect.
Thanks

There are 2 ways you can find out what your actual pay - or close to it will be each month.
1st is Salarybot, put in the info and it will calculate your monthly pay.
2nd, take your yearly pay, devise by 12 the take 22% off. That will give you an approx monthly wage.

Any idea what the alpha deductions are?

https://www.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php
Alpha is 5.45% I believe at prison officer pay scale.

Re: What is the actual take home pay each month?
It seems Steria has now been updated to reflect the new salaries
Prison Officer - HMP Prison Officer £31,560 London
This being for 37hrs, so after POELTs opting to 39+ hours will obviously increase that further.
Monthly take-home (after Pension at 5.45% etc) for London areas should then be around £1940

You'll need to check the MoJ website, it'll show in 'external vacancies'
