Starting training in August. When do prison officers get paid? A month behind?

If you start before the 22nd ofthe month you'll be paid pro rata on last day of month, if after 22nd youl be paid pro rata for August and September on last working day of September

It's hit and miss, I started one week before the end of the month and I received a weeks pay the end of the same month, others on my course received a weeks pay a couple of weeks into our poelt course, one guy had to wait until the end if the month

I also start the 24th July, I'm assuming that's the cutoff\start of the pay cycle for the month of sorts so will be waiting until what, the last working day of August before first pay?. 5 weeks is sure a long slog for the family, but it is what it is and stocking the chest freezer up with extra food to help with the gap in income.

Just make sure all your contracts are received and processed even before you start worth phoning and asking if all is ok. I assumed all was ok and wasnt and wasnt paid till 2 months in :( check is my advice :)

they say I have to send my P45 in. I start like Andy on the 24th of July , but won't get my P45 until 27th of July . I don't know how much difference that would make. probably will tax me as emergency tax code till I get that P 45 send in. then next pay get my money back of what I overpaid for tax.

Rocky, you might be able to contact HMRC directly and get the tax code moved over by hand or something, not to sure how the process works. But in my current job we have people who work there as a second or third job, so no P45 to give, do would normally be on the emergency 20% tax code.

But I gather they do in cases where you have multiple jobs (yes I know you can't with the service in most cases) or a overlap due to pay cycle on old job etc, well you can contact HMRC and put the main, bigger paying job down as your main first job to get the normal tax code applied without a P45 and the old lesser paying job as the secondary job so that will then be liable for the higher tax rate instead!. That's what some people where I work do anyway!.

Not exactly sure how the process works, weather you have to call HMRC or fill a form in. As I'm going to try as I could be waiting a while after leaving my old job before getting any P45, so will try and get the correct tax code sorted without the P45 before the cut-off in August.

Thought I would just tag this question on in here. Is the benefits (£3000) added to the salary taxed? I just wondered why call it a benefit if it is also taxed.

yes , it is taxed, everything is taxed mate . the only things that are not taxed are refunds for shoes, travel expenses , etc

Andy- I know how the process works exactly, sometimes the first month will be taxed as an emergency , but it gets sorted month after.
I get emergency tax in my second job, even that is classified as sessional / bank job, which means i do only the shifts that i want. But the tax always gets sorted at the end. if they own you money you will get that back. I got a little check for 400 pounds last year .

I leave my current job next week. I reached my end of year targets so I will receive my bonus before I leave. I'm told I will be paid my bonus as vouchers so me and the company don't need to pay any tax.

Not sure how it all works though
