Re: Newbold revel start date 01/02/2021
Just to confirm to everyone, that no matter where you train, it’s the same syllabus. Everyone in POELT training does the same course, to the national standard.
It doesn’t matter if you train at Newbold or a prison.

Re: First Week
I don’t think you have to do a fitness test in training, atleast no one ever mentioned that to me. You do however have to do them every year as part of your contract.
You need trainers and PE gear for Control and restraint training, which you do during POELT training.

If you have your contract, it will have to be honoured. It may well be your training could be delayed.
I’ve heard of some new starters working at their jail for months before they could start training.

Re: take home pay
JCOX, sorry to hear that you won’t be joining us, that’s a shame, but I completely understand. The pay isn’t great, that’s for sure, and I wouldn’t blame people for leaving if they can earn better money doing a safer job. I have to admit, the admin side of the service seems pretty shocking so far, i...

Re: take home pay
Craig79-that’s not good that you haven’t been paid yet, even though you started in mid November. Pretty poor admin by SSCL... Also you have to work Xmas day even though you won’t be qualified? Bit harsh that mate... especially as you thought you were off anyway. Is Newbold closed for 2 weeks? A few ...

Re: take home pay
This is how I understand it, I have recently joined the service. The Justice Secretary announced in 2017 that certain prisons would become red and amber sites. All of these site were in the South East and London from what I gather. Amber sites pay £3k per year on top of the salary and red sites £5k ...

Re: Do I disclose a community resolution?
I’d imagine vetting is a pass or fail before they give you the job? Dishonesty on the application forms would be picked up quite quickly wouldn’t it??

Re: First Week
Thanks Craig- I was at Newbold ten years ago and thought it was great. I’m glad your enjoying it. Sounds like you had a good week. How many POELTS are there? How many groups? I’m guessing smaller due to covid... Also do they shut down for Xmas there?... My establishment didn’t say what happens with ...

Re: Emails
Hi Scotty- you can’t check government protected emails out of work. Where you going to do your training? Newbold Revel does have prison service computers, I was there last time I did POELT training.
