Re: Alone on the wing

If they don’t have sufficient staffing levels then they should curtail the regime. Every jail should have an RMP contingency in place for this.
The amount of staff available decides on what kind of regime can be run safely.
This should apply to ALL jails.

Re: Alone on the wing

Every job has to have a risk assessment done (it’s law). That includes private prisons. There will be a risk assessment for how many staff is needed to unlock, and do other duties. Safely. Therefore, there is a staff to prisoner ratio set out. If your employers are not letting you know this informat...

Re: RAD. What to wear

They’re not there to judge you on how well you’re dressed. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. I wore jeans and trainers.

Remember folks, it’s not an interview, it’s an assessment day. They want you for your personality, not your catwalk outfit.

You’ll pay it back in 12 monthly instalments, but how much that will be depends on how much your annual ticket costs.

Re: Tornado team

I think Huntsman is actually talking about joining the Nationals, rather than just be a tornado trained officer.
You have to be the best of the best to get into the Nationals.
They’re a whole different league!

Re: Prison job Promotion/Salaries

If you opt for the private pension scheme, you may be able to continue paying into that one if you move on to another job. It’s worth checking out. Better to have something than nothing at all.

Re: Prison job Promotion/Salaries

You can opt to pay into a private pension scheme if you so wish.
Personally, I think you’d be crazy to not have some sort of pension pot for yourself, but it’s entirely your choice.

Re: Overtime(PP)?

At the moment, the PP rate is £22 per hour. As to how much overtime is available is establishment depending. However, there is a national bonus scheme starting again soon. You sign up for an extra 5 or 9 hour so per week for 3 months and you then get up to £1500 bonus payment (on top of the £22 p/h)...

Re: Train pass

You can only apply for this once you have been in the job for 3 months. You find the form on SOP and then your line manager approves it and forwards it to Shared Services. They pay you the ticket amount in the following pay and then take it out of your pay every month thereafter. It’s definitely wor...

Re: how should prisoners refer to you?

Surely our personal security comes way before any so-called rehabilitation and therefore they do not need to know our first names. It’s not about respect, it’s about safety. End of story. :slnote:

Re: how should prisoners refer to you?

Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I see no reason for prisoners to know my first name. Miss (insert surname), Miss (insert initial), or just Miss is fine with me. Once they know your full name, then it’s so much easier to find you on social media online etc. Plus, it’s a tool used to try and condition yo...
